Management Team

Bert Frizzell
Bert Frizzell is President and Chief Executive Officer of The Shaw Group. He joined the company in 1974 and has held senior management positions in several of the operating divisions. Immediately prior to his appointment as CEO, Mr. Frizzell served as The Shaw Group's President and Chief Operating Officer.

Over the years Mr. Frizzell has held voluntary leadership positions in various industry and community associations. Currently he is a director of Masonry Canada, the National Concrete Masonry Association (USA), and the Concrete Masonry Producers Association of Canada; and treasurer and past chair, Clay Brick Association of Canada. Mr. Frizzell is a graduate of Acadia University and Harvard Business School's Executive Management Program.

Ken Hardie
Ken Hardie is Vice-President Business Development. His career with the company spans 36 years and a number of managerial positions including Corporate Controller and General Manager of Shaw Resources. Mr. Hardie is a Certified Management Accountant and a Past-President of the Society of Management Accountants of Nova Scotia. He is currently a director of the Nova Scotia Division of Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters.

Richard Miller
Richard Miller is Vice-President of Community Development & Housing and President of Clayton Developments Limited. His extensive expertise in commercial and residential real estate development industry reflects a career spanning nearly 40 years with the company and involvement in numerous industry and community organizations. Mr. Miller’s past volunteer leadership roles include Chairman of the Nova Scotia Real Estate Commission and President of the Nova Scotia and Canadian Home Builders Associations.

Roger Perry
Roger Perry is Vice-President Construction Materials. After a successful career with KPMG, he joined The Shaw Group in 1989 as the company’s Chief Financial Officer and was appointed Vice President Finance in 2002. He also managed the company’s Transport division for several years. Mr. Perry holds the designation Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and has contributed significantly over the years in leadership roles with many community and professional voluntary organizations.

Gordon Dickie
Gordon Dickie is General Manager of Shaw Resources. A graduate of Dalhousie University, he joined the company in 1989 after a 15-year career as a geologist in the mineral exploration and government sectors. He held a number of management positions within the Resources division before being appointed General Manager in 2002. Mr. Dickie is active in a number of industry associations including serving as a director of the Chamber of Mineral Resources of Nova Scotia.

Dan Gibson
Dan Gibson is The Shaw Group’s Chief Financial Officer. Since joining the company in 1991, Mr. Gibson has held several senior positions including Controller at Clayton Developments, General Manager of Shaw Wood and Corporate Controller. He was appointed CFO in November 2004 and also manages The Shaw Group’s Oil and Gas Services opportunities. Mr. Gibson received his Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Francis Xavier University and is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia. In 1999, the Institute honoured Mr. Gibson with the Ross L.Towler C.A. of the Year Award for his extensive volunteer efforts in sports and community activities.

John Greer
John Greer is General Manager of Shaw Pipe and Shaw Transport, and President of Ven-Rez Products Ltd. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Acadia University. Since joining The Shaw Group in 1989 as Technical Sales Representative, Mr. Greer has held several positions and played a key role in the growth of the Pipe division. He was appointed General Manager of Pipe in 2001 and assumed responsibility for Ven-Rez in May 2006 when the company became part of The Shaw Group.  

Michael Hanusiak
Michael Hanusiak is Senior Vice-President and General Manager of Clayton Developments.  Prior to joining The Shaw Group in 2002, Mr. Hanusiak’s career appointments included Director of Development Services with the City of Fredericton, General Manager of Development Services and the Acting Director of Planning and Development with the Halifax Regional Municipality, and Executive Director of the Halifax Industrial Commission. He holds a BA (Hons) from the University of New Brunswick and an MA in Urban & Regional Planning from Queen’s University.

Michael Kontak
Michael Kontak is Corporate Secretary and Director of Human Resources. He also manages The Shaw Group’s internal and external communications. Since joining the company in 1993, he has held a number of senior positions. A graduate of St. Francis Xavier University, Mr. Kontak also holds an LL.B. from Dalhousie University. A volunteer with many community organizations over the years, his current leadership activities include the St. Mary’s Basilica Finance Committee, the Halifax YMCA Annual Fund and the Advisory Committee of the Big Cove YMCA Camp. He is also Vice-Chair of the Nova Scotia International Tattoo.

Terry MacDow
Terry MacDow is General Manager of Shaw Brick. After starting his career in construction materials in a family business, he joined The Shaw Group in 1978 as Sales Representative for Mainland Nova Scotia and held many positions over the years. He has led the Brick Division since 2001. He currently serves as a director of the Clay Brick Association of Canada and the North American Interlocking Concrete Paver Institute. He is also a former president of the Nova Scotia Home Builders Association and has held senior positions in many related industry associations over the years.

Dean Robertson
Dean Robertson is General Manager of Prestige Homes. He graduated from Acadia University with a Certificate in Applied Science and the Technical University of Nova Scotia with a B.Eng. in Industrial Engineering. Prior to joining The Shaw Group in 1998, he held senior managerial positions with McCain Foods Limited and Lewis Mouldings Limited and ran a manufacturing consulting service. Mr. Robertson led the company’s Shaw Wood division for four years before being appointed to his present position in 2005.


Carol Boudreau
Carol Boudreau graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1988. She earned her Chartered Accountant designation in 1995 with an accounting firm in New Brunswick. Ms. Boudreau joined Clayton Developments in 1998 as a Senior Accountant. She was promoted to the position of Controller of Clayton Developments the following year and became responsible for preparing the division’s financial reports and analyzing financial background information for strategic planning, land acquisitions, and investments. In 2006 she was appointed Corporate Controller of The Shaw Group. Carol Boudreau serves on the Board of Directors of the Halifax YMCA. 

Don Darling
Don Darling joined Prestige Homes in 1995 with a background in sales and is currently the division’s Marketing Manager. In addition to his marketing and sales responsibilities for Prestige Homes, Don has been President of the Canadian Manufactured Housing Institute for the past three years, is on the national executive board of the Canadian Home Builders Association (CHBA) and sits on CHBA’s national economic research and marketing committees. In 2006 Mr. Darling completed the Executive Leadership program at Queens University.

Brady Hawley
Brady is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier (science) and the Technical University of Nova Scotia with a Bachelor of Engineering. After 10 years as a consulting engineer, he joined Shaw Pipe, where his engineering and innovation talents, particularly in new product development, played a significant role in the division’s growth and success. In 2005 he was appointed Manager of Operational Excellence at Lantz, heading various teams working to improve manufacturing processes. In 2007 Mr. Hawley was appointed Operations Manager with Shaw Brick and made responsible for the division’s clay and concrete manufacturing operations at Lantz and Fredericton and at GS Concrete in Windsor and became responsible for preparing the division’s financial reports and analyzing financial background information for strategic planning, land acquisitions, and investments.
